Paraeducator–Interventionist – Specialized Therapeutic Behavior Program (Anticipated Opening 2026-2027)

Keystone Area Education Agency is anticipating multiple openings for Paraeducator – Interventionists within a Specialized Therapeutic Behavior Program beginning with the 2026–2027 school year. These positions are currently under development and are pending final program approval.

We are seeking individuals who are passionate about supporting students with significant social-emotional and behavioral needs. While experience is valued, we are especially interested in candidates who demonstrate patience, resilience, and a strong commitment to helping students succeed. Keystone AEA provides comprehensive training and ongoing support to help staff grow and be successful in this role.

Program & Location Information

This is a newly developed program for the 2026–2027 school year, located at the Keystone AEA facility in Elkader, Iowa.

Position Overview

Paraeducator – Interventionists provide essential educational and behavioral support to students under the direction of a certified teacher. This role focuses on one-to-one intensive behavior support, data collection, and assisting students in developing the skills needed to successfully engage in the learning environment.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive classroom while helping students build independence and successfully reintegrate into less restrictive environments.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Associate’s degree preferred
  • Experience working with students with behavioral or special needs preferred
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification preferred (training provided if needed)
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and responsive in challenging situations
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from certified staff

Compensation & Contract Details (anticipated)

  • Starting hourly rate of $25.00 per hour
  • Comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees

Key Responsibilities (anticipated)

  • Provide one-to-one behavior intervention and support for students
  • Assist with de-escalation and implementation of behavior strategies
  • Collect and maintain behavioral and instructional data
  • Support instructional activities and reinforce learning under teacher direction
  • Assist in implementing student plans, including IEPs, FBAs, and BIPs
  • Support student reintegration into classroom settings within the program and resident districts
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development
  • Maintain a safe and structured environment for students and staff
