Try This!! Sky Color - Messy Physical Science!
This activity was adapted from an activity at https://www.ecstemlab.com/.
Sometimes messy activities can feel intimidating! BUT- being messy can provide a gateway to sensory exploration and physical science opportunities. Remember - we are all washable!!!
Supplies:
- Book: Sky Color by Peter Reynolds
- Available in MackinVIA
- Or order a physical copy of the book- Media Checkout # B 115325
- Paint
- Paper
- Optional: Textured surfaces
Directions:
1. Read Sky Color by Peter Reynolds
2. Give children paper paint
3. Let children experiment with mixing the paint colors with their fingers to create their own sky colors!
Extension: Give children a variety of textures to paint on like bubble wrap or sand paper to see what happens!
Questions to ask throughout: What do you think will happen when we mix (pick two colors)? What does the paint feel like (sticky, wet, smooth)? What sky colors did we see in the book?
