Empowering Elementary Teachers: Evidence-Based Strageies for Supporting Struggling Math Learners

Are you looking for effective, research-backed strategies to support students who struggle in mathematics? This workshop is designed for elementary teachers, both general education and special education, to explore six key evidence-based practices that enhance mathematical understanding and fluency.

During this workshop, participants will:

  • Learn how to provide systematic instruction that builds students’ conceptual understanding of mathematical ideas.

  • Discover strategies for teaching clear and concise mathematical language, helping students communicate their mathematical thinking effectively.

  • Explore the use of concrete and semi-concrete representations to reinforce mathematical concepts and procedures.

  • Gain hands-on experience using the number line to support student learning and prepare them for advanced mathematical topics.

  • Develop techniques for teaching word problems that deepen mathematical comprehension and promote problem-solving skills.

  • Learn how to incorporate fluency activities to support student understanding while maintaining student confidence and engagement.

This interactive workshop will include hands-on activities, discussion, and practical examples that you can immediately implement in your classroom. Whether you're a new or experienced educator, you’ll leave with actionable strategies to help your students build confidence and succeed in mathematics.
