Science and STEAM

There are plenty of terrific Science Teachers in Iowa, and The Iowa Academy of Science (IAS) wants to present Excellence in Science Teaching Awards (ESTA) to them.  Each year, outstanding teachers from all grade levels and areas of science are eligible to be recognized for their work and innovations in science education. Use the form found here to nominate online.

The deadline for submission is 1/31/19. Nominations are encouraged from administrators, colleagues, or a teacher may self-nominate.  Note: Two letters of support are to accompany the nomination, and one of the two letters must be from the nominee’s administrator.  The complete packet is due 1/31/19.

Response time is short but the nomination process is easy: fill in vita information and responses to four essay questions plus two letters of support completes the process.

Nominations are accepted in the following eight categories which allow up to 11 teachers to be recognized:

  • Physical Science (e.g., physics, chemistry, physical science, etc.)
  • Life Science (e.g., biology, anatomy/physiology, life science, genetics, etc.)

  • Earth/Space Science/Environmental Science

  • General/Multiple Science (e.g., integrated science, interdisciplinary courses, multiple preps)

  • Middle School/Junior High Science

  • Elementary Science (two awards may be given/year)

  • Science Supervisory (district, private, AEA, museum, naturalist, etc.)

  • STEM (Elementary Level, Middle School Level, and High School Level (all 3 may be awarded))
